Baby Led Weaning in The Huynh house

J turned 10 months this month and as he's growing so is his appetite. When we started J on solids a few months back I had these dreams of grandeur of making all this blended baby food. Well, I was that mom for about two weeks and then life creeps in with its rushed time. As a full-time working Mom I didn't always have the time nor the will power to steam and blend his food. My motivation for that quickly faded when I noticed he would watch us eat dinner and fuss because he wanted what we had. It was in those moments, meal prep baby blended food went out the window and soon I was just breaking little pieces of what we had made for dinner for him!

It was the glorious freedom I didn't know I had as a first time mom. I thought that the 'good mom' blended the baby food, creating different combinations and serving them at every meal time. Well I was wrong, motherhood and childhood is about adapting to the life that fits YOU. And there is nothing wrong with giving your baby food from the dinners you make. Thanks to Tik Tok, of all places, I learned about baby led weaning and how not all babies love baby food. Some actually prefer itty bitty portions of what you eat!

So I bought an adorable baby food plate to section out his food and thus began J's journey of baby led weaning, eating more 'adult' food and a little less breast milk as his main food. He still has a bottle after meals but the ounces are less which is good as we head into his year mark when we plan to switch him to a different milk source.
